As the sports world turns..

Photobucket

As anyone who has watched at least 5 minutes of ESPN in the past few weeks will tell you, this picture is pretty much what the state of sports looks like right now. Immediately following the NBA Finals and right before the NFL season begins we experience a drought in sports and ESPN has to fill this with whatever they can. This year the posterboy has been none other then previously retired Brett Favre and lately Manny Ramirez. So ESPN has decided to shove them in our face all summer like they are breaking down the upcoming election. Well for the record I will fold under the pressure of ESPN and weigh in on the two situations and my opinions on them.

Manny Ramirez' trade request, then the subsequent trade too the Dodgers was described as..well Manny being Manny. I feel it was Manny being a little to childish about a situation I don't take as being that serious. I don't know too much about the background story of the organization and how their treating Manny but it got to the point where although he is the best hitter on the team he was becoming too much of a distraction to a team that will be a contender come October. Overall he is a better fit on the Dodgers although I felt the Red Sox didn't get enough for him they almost get addition by subtraction which is very reminiscent to the Nomar Garciaparra ordeal a few years ago that led to a World Series.

Brett Favre retired about 4 months ago. The Packers named Aaron Rodgers the starting QB. Brett Favre decided he wanted to play again. The Packers tried to avoid the situation and continue with Rodgers. Brett Favre requested a release. The Packers said no. Brett Favre wants to compete for the job in Green Bay. The Packers told him to become a 14 million dollar backup. Brett Favre said no. The Packers tried to shop him to Tampa Bay and New York. Brett said no. The Packers told him not to report to camp. Brett Favre said no. The Packers flew to Mississippi to offer this Mafia-esque payoff of 20 million dollars to not play. Brett Favre said no. As you can see this does not look like a situation that will be getting better. I predict in the near future Brett signing with one of their rivals, Vikings or Bears, and kills them 2 times this year to make the packers pay.
